Taper Taps: Gradual lead-in for starting new threads in through-holes. The most common starting tap.
Plug Taps: Moderate taper for general-purpose threading in both through-holes and blind holes.
Bottom Taps: Minimal taper for threading to the bottom of blind holes. Use after a taper or plug tap.
