Six product lines that make Dico the trusted choice for professional buffing, polishing, and surface preparation at Family Hardware.
Nyalox Brush Technology
Nylon abrasive filaments impregnated with silicon carbide provide aggressive surface conditioning without gouging. Ideal for cleaning, deburring, and blending on metals, wood, and composites.
Spiral-Sewn Buffing Wheels
Concentric spiral stitching creates a firm, dense wheel surface that delivers consistent cutting action. Higher stitch count provides more aggressive buffing for heavy oxidation and scratch removal.
Professional-Grade Compounds
Specially formulated buffing compounds from coarse emery to fine jewelers rouge. Each compound is engineered for specific metals and finish levels, from initial cut to mirror polish.
Drill-Mount Compatibility
Standard 1/4-inch shank arbors fit any power drill, making professional buffing and polishing accessible without a bench grinder. Quick-change mandrels speed up compound switches.
Precision Canton Flannel Wheels
Loose cotton flannel buffs produce the softest finishing action for final high-gloss polishing. Canton flannel wheels deliver mirror-quality finishes on jewelry, brass, and chrome.
Industrial Wire Brushes
Carbon steel and stainless steel wire wheels in crimped and knotted configurations for rust removal, weld cleaning, and heavy surface prep. Built for bench grinders and angle grinders.

Buffing & Polishing Fundamentals
Understanding the Process
Cutting (Step 1): Removes heavy scratches, oxidation, and surface imperfections using a firm spiral-sewn wheel with emery or tripoli compound. This is the aggressive first step.
Coloring (Step 2): Refines the surface to a smooth satin finish using a medium-density wheel with white diamond or stainless compound. Removes cutting marks.
Finishing (Step 3): Final high-gloss mirror polish using a loose canton flannel wheel with jewelers rouge or green chrome compound. Produces a brilliant shine.
Equipment Basics
Bench Grinder: Mount buffing wheels directly to a 6-inch or 8-inch bench grinder for stationary buffing. Best for small parts, jewelry, and hardware restoration.
Power Drill: Use Dico arbors with 1/4-inch shanks to mount wheels on any power drill. Perfect for on-the-job polishing and hard-to-reach areas.
Angle Grinder: Wire wheels and flap brushes mount to angle grinders for heavy-duty rust removal and surface prep on larger workpieces.
